Four and twenty is a casual bistro style restaurant in the market town of Penrith, Cumbria and opened in 2013. We use local produce prepared and served by our small team. Our food is flavourful and unfussy drawing on seasonal British cooking, but also inspired by flavours from further a field. We have a carefully selected wine list.

We offer around 20 wines by the glass using our Coravin Pivot. Our coravin allows us to sell wines by the glass which we wouldn't normally be able to do. The wines by the glass can change depending on our produce-led seasonal Cumbrian Menus.

Chateau Laroze Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2014

The 2012 vintage is 66% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Well balanced oak with pure black and red fruit. The palate is well balanced and classic in style. An abundance of fruit, but well controlled, subtly spicy, and gently mellows towards the very satisfying finish.

Domaine Amélie and Charles Sparr Riesling Sentiment.

This soulful, biodynamically grown, dry Riesling is all about texture and depth. With notes of ripe citrus and quince on the nose and pineapple, peach and a mineral finish on the palate. Hands-off winemaking is key here, creating a wholesome, satisfying white. Made by a young couple who grew up in the winemaking families in Alsace, this is the new face of a traditional region.

Rebecca Cowin and George Loulli

Rebecca has passed her Wset level 2 and is studying for her Wset level 3. George has passed his Wset Level 2. Rebecca and George are the owners of 4 and 20 since march 2024 and since they bought it they have made it a priority to have a wine list that offers a wide selection. They also visit vineyards round the world to improve their knowledge of wines.
