A fire-powered Mediterranean diner from the Bar Copains team, set in a character-filled Surry Hills warehouse with an open kitchen and wood-fired oven at its heart. Bessie's flows straight into sister cocktail bar Alma's, named, like Bessie's itself, after the owners' grandmothers. Warm, buzzy, built for sharing plates and pouring wine.

A Mediterranean-inspired wine program spanning Italy, Spain, Greece and the South of France, complemented by a deep Burgundy cellar. Alongside the classics, the list champions cult producers such as Comando G, Emidio Pepe and Valentini, with an emphasis on character and ageability.

Liam Gale

Growing up in western Sydney (Blacktown), Liam started his hospitality career at 16, working in pubs before moving into fine dining at the historic Berowra Waters. He then pursued his passion for wine, joining the Goodies Group and completing the Introductory Court of Master Sommeliers Certificate. Now he oversees the Bessie's & Alma's wine list, enhancing the guest experience.
