Christopher Barth, Auf Dem Grun Riesling, 2022, Rheinhessen

A new producer for us that we are very excited to import directly. The Auf Dem Grun is a barrel selection of Christophers Melaphyr Riesling from his top plot, spending two years in cask on the lees and producing fewer than 500 bottles. Incredibly complex, filled with floral and herbal notes, crisp green apples, and followed by distinct notes of raw dough and sesame. Like no other Riesling we've come across. Uniquely delicious. 

PerSe, 'Volare del Camino' Malbec, 2021, Mendoza

David and Edy at PerSe are showing us the fine wine potential of Malbec, with high altitude and low yields the name of the game. From a tiny parcel of just 16 rows of vines at the Cristo Orante Monastery in Gualtallary and quite a cool year, extracted very gently over 30 days before a further 14 months in old oak. The result is an incredibly fresh, aromatic, and concentrated wine, full of tart red and blue fruit supported by fresh herbs, floral perfume, and earth.

We don't often get many older wines in at The Sourcing Table so to have one on by the glass and have it be such good value too gets us excited. Released recently by one of our importers as part of a limited selection of older Spanish treasures.
Pale garnet coloured, with an intense nose of dried cherries, raisins, leather, and forest floor. On the palate it has so much freshness still, with a youthful tart red cherry note which was a welcome surprise, and a long, warm, tobacco finish.
