The Don

Rating 2

TWO GLASS RATING: Over 40 wines by-the-glass

Experience: Sophisticated & Stylish

Specialist in: Burgundy | Champagne | Chardonnay | Chenin Blanc...

A classic City Restaurant at the heart of the Square Mile. The cellars, where the Sandeman Ports and Sherries were aged and bottled from 1805 until 1967, are now used for private events. The Don offers a modern British cooking with seasonal menus relying on local produce. The extensive wine list has over 800 references and one of the finest City’s selection of Ports and sherries.

The wine list is diverse and varied in style and origin.  Champagnes from both growers and grandes marques and premium still wines from France, Italy, Spain and Australia, among others, are selected to reflect the best produced in each region. To carry on the Sandeman heritage, we offer a broad selection of sweet and fortified wines by the glass to sip at the end of the meal.

GLASS HIGHLIGHTS

Subject to availability*

'Le Clos' Blanc 2023, Clos Venturi - Corsica, France

Manu Venturi, the winemaker, decided to separate this specific plot from the surrounding Domaine Vico after identifying its potential. This very special cuvée is made of 100% Vermentinu, no oak used to emphasis on the grape purity.
We also love it because this estate is practicing the regenerative viticulture which is for us the most sustainable nowadays.
Sheeps, chickens and beehives surround the vines, providing natural fertilizer, weed control and improving biodiversity.

Shiraz 'Blind Spot Vineyard - Moritz Block' 2023, Willunga 100 - McLaren Vale, Australia

One single block of a single vineyard on Maslin sands in the heart of the prestigious sub-region of Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale.
The grapes are sourced from 13 dry-farmed rows of 90-year-old vines. The wine has the New World fruit’s concentration and richness with a Northern Rhône inspiration. Perfumed nose with an intense violet lift, mulberry and blackcurrant fruits, warm spices and roasted almonds characters.

Muscat Beaumes de Venise Rosé ‘Le petit grain d’Antonin’ 2024, Alain Ignace - Rhône, France

A small production with only a tiny quantity available in the UK, we feel very lucky to work with Alain Ignace. He likes to think outside the box and creates unique and distinctive styles of Muscats. His Beaumes de Venise Rosé is a blend of Muscat à petits grains Blanc and Muscat à petits grains Rouge. Intensely perfumed and extremely well-balanced, with lots of finesse. You also love its sweet Red Muscat made of 100% Brown Muscat.

Julia Tamisier & David Gleave MW

David Gleave, co-founder and Chairman of Liberty Wines, was determined to work with exceptional producers, whatever their size or location, when he started his Company in 1997. And it is with the same stubbornness on quality-focused producers that the Don & Bar 1790 wine lists have been created with the head Sommelier, Julia Tamisier.
