Wine Bar Casa La Pastina
Wine Bar · R. Oscar Freire, 574 - Cerqueira César, São Paulo - SP, 01426-000
On Rua Oscar Freire, the Jardins shopping street, the importer La Pastina has opened a two-storey house of Mediterranean food and drink, and its wine bar is the part serious drinkers head for. The numbers are hard to ignore: some 500 labels from fifteen countries in the cellar, and 195 of them open by the glass on a printed list that changes every two months. The range comes from the La Pastina and World Wine portfolios, so Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne share the page with Greek whites, New Zealand, South Africa, orange wines and Portuguese bottles such as Maçanita's Branco. Sommelier João Renato da Silva, WSET Level 3 and two decades in hotels and wine bars, keeps the tone relaxed. Comparing three regions side by side costs no more than a single evening. That is exactly the idea.

Altruísta
Restaurant · Alameda Campinas, 952 - Jardins, São Paulo - SP, 01404-200
Behind a Jardins frontage on Alameda Campinas, Altruísta runs as an Italian osteria and enoteca at once, and the second half of that name is taken seriously. Five sommeliers work the floor, and the list runs past a thousand labels, with rare bottles and older vintages kept in a special reserve cellar. The glass selection runs to more than twenty wines, strongest in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with names such as Ornellaia and Château Margaux on the list and Portugal's Tonel Mouchão 3-4 alongside. Pasta, meat and sauces draw on the restaurant's own organic garden. At dinner a daily tasting menu pairs four small plates with four glasses, the easiest way to let the team steer. The room has a mezzanine, private rooms and a roof that retracts on warm nights. There is a wine shop on site, too.

Balaio IMS
Restaurant · Av. Paulista, 2424 - Bela Vista, São Paulo - SP, 01310-300
On Avenida Paulista, at the Bela Vista edge of Jardins, Balaio sits inside the Instituto Moreira Salles cultural centre. Chef Rodrigo Oliveira, of Mocotó fame, uses the kitchen to travel Brazil state by state, reworking regional dishes such as dadinhos de tapioca and pork ribs glazed with guava barbecue sauce. The wine list follows the same instinct for origin and producer. Low-intervention, organic and biodynamic bottles lead, and the by-the-glass selection is unusually well balanced: two Amazonian sparkling wines, ten whites, four orange, two rosés and twelve reds, with Riesling, Pinot Noir, Malbec and Portuguese bottles among them. Pair a glass with an exhibition upstairs. This is a museum restaurant that takes its wine seriously.

Bráz Pizzaria Jardins
Restaurant · Alameda Tietê, 110 - Jardim Paulista, São Paulo - SP, 01417-020
Alameda Tietê, in the leafy grid of Jardim Paulista, is home to this Jardins outpost of Bráz, the São Paulo pizzeria name built on the city's Italian immigrant story. The ovens and the dough are the draw, but the wine offer deserves more attention than pizzerias usually get. More than twenty wines are open by the glass, chosen by head sommelier Carina Cooper, who has more than 25 years in the trade and belongs to the first class of sommeliers trained by the Brazilian Sommeliers Association. Tuscany is the anchor, with bottles from Famiglia Mazzei such as Siepi, a Sangiovese and Merlot blend, alongside Piedmont whites like Batasiolo's Il Pumo, Argentine reds and Cabernet Sauvignon. Her approach is direct and unfussy. A Super-Tuscan by the glass with a margherita is a very São Paulo kind of pleasure.

Restaurante Cena
Restaurant · R. Oscar Freire, 384 - Jardim Paulista, São Paulo - SP, 01426-000
Inside the Emiliano hotel on Rua Oscar Freire, Cena is a newer dining room designed by the architect Arthur Casas, its open kitchen running straight into the tables. Chef Vinícius Pires, whose career includes a spell at Evvai, cooks contemporary Brazilian food built around the ingredient and exact technique. The drinks side is led by Luís Otávio Álvares Cruz, the reigning Brazilian sommelier champion, who represented the country at the ASI world contest in Paris in 2023. His by-the-glass list runs past twenty wines, with Champagne and classic bottles set beside Brazilian and South American producers, and a clear preference for organic, biodynamic and regeneratively farmed wines. Sherry gets a place too. Recent pours have included Endogen's Xarel·lo and Textura's Pretexto blend. It is polished without being stiff, and the glass list rewards curiosity.

Aguzzo - Jardins
Restaurant · Rua Haddock Lobo, 1002 - Cerqueira César, São Paulo - SP, 01414-000
Handmade pasta rolled every day has been the Aguzzo signature since the group opened in 2006, and this branch on Rua Haddock Lobo brings it to the heart of Cerqueira César. The gnocchi is the dish that made its name, once judged the best in São Paulo by the newspaper Estadão. What sets the Jardins room apart for wine lovers is its willingness to pour serious bottles by the glass. Diego Ramirez oversees the list and the pairings, and older, grander labels are offered in single measures rather than whole bottles; a Barbaresco from Bonardi has featured in 150ml pours. Piedmont is the natural centre, with Barolo and Super-Tuscans, but the list also covers Bordeaux, Champagne, Rioja, California and Argentine Malbec. The setting is elegant and the service warm. Order a second glass of Nebbiolo before the pasta arrives.
